More Power For File Comparison In Dreamweaver

Posted in Web Design by Blake on the July 16th, 2007

For those who use Dreamweaver for building websites, I’d like to bring to light a feature that you may not be aware of. Dreamweaver has a pretty decent built-in system for collaboration among others. Along with file check in and check out, it has good file synchronization features, giving you the options of putting or getting only newer files.

But what happens when something doesn’t seem right. What is there is a breakdown in communication among those working on a project. If there is a discrepancy you can check the file dates, but what about when you want to know exactly what has changed? Visual line by line comparison is just not practical.

Dreamweaver has support for third-party file/merge applications. Some of these applications are available for free, and there are some available for both Mac and Windows, so there is really no excuse not to have them. With these third-party applications, you can see exactly what has changed and choose to merge those changes individually.
