Church Communications Pro Features Cornerstone Church, Americus, Georgia

Posted in Awards & Recognition by Blake on the July 28th, 2008

I just found out that the Cornerstone Church website was featured as a “Rockin’ Cool Church Website” on Church Communications Pro. Thanks for the kudos guys.

Maybe I should incorporate that into my service offerings. “Well, I have a basic church Web design package, and then there is the  Rockin’ Cool package. I personally recommend the Rockin’ Cool package.”

Google “Improves” Indexing Of Flash Sites

Posted in Web Design, News by Blake on the July 6th, 2008

A while back I posted regarding the downsides of Flash as far as SEO is concerned. It seems that within that past few days that this may have changed. According to this post, Google has developed a new algorithm for indexing text content in Flash files.

While I won’t rush to recant everything I stated in my previous post, I welcome the apparent fact that it is quickly moving towards obsolescence—especially since this a one technology that people ask for by name.

Backup Equals “Whew!”

Posted in General, Ramblings by Blake on the June 27th, 2008

Backing up your data is a lot like flossing. You know the benefits. It is relatively inexpensive. It doesn’t take too much time. And, it can prevent a lot of pain down the road.

The hard drive in my PowerBook (laptop) went far south the other night. Dead. No resurrection in sight.

Although, I did not have a complete back up—as in a nice Time Machine backup—I had recently copied all documents from it in anticipation of an upgrade to Leopard. I am now in the midst of reinstalling apps and documents and will soon have weathered this event unscathed except for a slightly lighter wallet.

In fact, as a result of this I am better off.

Pre-crash:

  • 60GB of Storage
  • 4200 RPM
  • OS 10.4 Tiger

Post-crash:

  • 160 GB of Storage
  • 5400 RPM
  • OS 10.5 Leopard (Time Machine will ensure better backups in the future)

Moral of the story: backup, backup, then backup!
